"TATPAR MUMBAI - 2010" (A Mega Disaster Management Event)

To educate the masses and demonstrate the disaster management skills of various agencies involved in disaster management a mega exhibition named 'TATPAR MUMBAI' was organized by Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, taking into consideration the increasing terrorist attacks and natural disasters viz., earthquake, flood, incessant rains, etc. The exhibition was held on Shivaji Park ground for two days on 27th & 28th February 2010. The event which featured demonstrations, exhibition and informative one-to-one sessions was inaugurated by Mayor of Mumbai, Mrs. Shraddha Jadhav.

The main intension of organizing the exibition was to bring together all the ace agencies involved in disaster management in and around Mumbai. The agencies which participated in the event included AADM (Aniruddha's Academy of Disaster Management), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), BDDS (Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad), Mumbai Police, Mumbai Fire Brigade, Traffic Police, Civil Defence, Aeronautical Society of India, Hinduja Hospital, 1298 LIHS Ambulance Service, Action Aid and Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation's Water Supply Department, Public Health Department, Sewerage & Garbage Department, Storm Water Drains Department and Disaster Management Cell. The event indeed showcased the power of unity and amply illustrated how coming together of all the agencies can improve the disaster response. It also served as an excellent opportunity for all the participating agencies for benchmarking their disaster management strategies and techniques with each other.

Live Demonstrations were performed by various agencies by recreating various disaster situations like rescuing victims stuck below debris of fallen building during earthquake, disaster response and rescue during bomb blasts, chemical weapon attacks, fire rescue and mitigation, aerial rescue using helicopters, parade and rescue demonstration by specially trained dogs of NDRF and CRPF, etc. A project prepared by students of NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) was also kept for display at the event.

The stall which AADM had put up was one of the special attractions of the event. Taking into consideration generation 7500 kilo tonnes of garbage everyday in just Mumbai AADM had a section of it's stall dedicated to demonstrate the installation of Vermiculture projects at domestic level. Further detailed information about vermiculture was also made available to the visitors.

There was an real life disaster response and rescue demonstration that was carried by the Rescue Team of AADM on the 27th February 2010. Further throughout the two days there were continuous demonstrations of various rescue methods, first-aid techniques, rescue knots, etc which were performed live by the AADM DMVs (Disaster Management Volunteers). AADM had also erected two screens on its stall which were continuously displaying Rescue Demonstrations, Disaster Management Courses conducted by AADM in past. The visitors were continuously navigated through the AADM website (http://www.aniruddhasadm.com/) and were guided about effectively using the website. Further all the First-aid and Rescue Materials and Kits that AADM maintains was put on a mega display and visitors were being guided and updated on the details of each.

Two books one which is used as Textbook by AADM which has detailed descriptions of various rescue methods, first-aid techniques, rescue knots, etc and the other titled "The Third World War" authored by P. P Aniruddha Bapu aka Dr. Aniruddha Dhairyadhar Joshi were also put on display through which AADM tried its level best to make the general public aware about the political, militaristic and economic situation prevalent on the world stage and its repercussions on common masses.
